"As a small business owner in Janesville’s downtown, I have had many opportunities to interact with Janesville city council member, Yuri Rashkin, and I have always been impressed by his dedication to Janesville’s downtown and its small businesses. Every time I have approached Mr. Rashkin with a concern or a question about a local issue, he has been willing to listen and provide me with the information I needed. I’ve had the opportunity to discuss many city issues like the sidewalk project, the ice arena, Shine, and the one-way street conversions with Mr. Rashkin and I have always found him to be thoughtful and eager to take in all of the facts before making a decision. We have not always agreed but I know that he heard what I had to say and I respect the fact that he has always done what he felt was right for this city.

Mr. Rashkin’s idea for The Janesville Mile was inspired and I know that he has put in a lot of effort alongside the convention and visitors bureau to take the idea into reality. Many times Mr. Rashkin personally delivered Janesville Mile maps and information to my business and he always took the time to chat about my opinions on the program and how it was working for me. He has been heavily involved in the United Arts Alliance, the Chalk Walk, the Downtown Development Alliance, and has also volunteered time for Rock Around the Block. I’ve had the pleasure of working on several of these projects with him and he has always been quick to offer ideas and support or to volunteer his time to get things done. All of these great programs and events give a much-needed boost to our downtown businesses and it is gratifying to see a city councilman with his level of energy and commitment to the community and its businesses.

Councilman Rashkin is currently running for state assembly. I believe that he has been a valuable member on our city council and I will be disappointed to see him go. I believe that the same energy, commitment, and open-mindedness that make him a great councilman will make him a great assemblyman."
