Leonid "Lyonya" Erdman (Леонид Константинович Эрдман)  was a schoolmate of my mother's at Moscow State Conservatory.  He ended up becoming a mathematician and songwriter.  I saw him only a handful of times in my life, and to a child, he presented a ferocious image: Lyonya had one eye, fiery beard and as I recall, drunk coffee by buckets.  Naturally he was expected to bring his guitar and sing a few songs for the admiring audience of friends.  Lyonya passed away January 31, 2003 at the age of 63.

Relatively recently, through family, I got a CD he recorded.  It's been sitting on my shelf and though I believe some of these songs were fairly popular in Russia, there is little about Leonid Erdman on line.  To make sure that the record of these songs remains, I put them on YouTube where they are available for your enjoyment, even if your curiosity is anthropological in nature.
