GM back in Janesville?

One of the hardest things to deal with is the uncertainty. And we've seen plenty of it in Janesville recently. Now, just as we are starting to come to terms with the reality that after nearly a hundred years, the General Motors is done in Janesville, the reality appears likely to change once again.

Hopefully the decision is reached to build the new cars in Janesville. We have great people who've built great vehicles here. And hopefully this decision is reached soon. The impact of the General Motors plant closing has had a dramatic impact not only on the GM workers and those who worked for the GM suppliers, but also on other industries, ranging from real estate to tourism.

Many people come to Janesville to see the Rotary Gardens, the Tallman House and other attractions. But most of the time it was the General Motors plant that brought tours to Janesville. Now it appears that the Janesville and General Motors may have a continuing relationship after all, and hopefully there will be more tours to showcase the new plant!

If this development comes to fruition, it will be in large part due to the partnership between the local and state governments, leaders past and present, and the unions, who worked hard to put together an excellent offer to convince the GM that Janesville is serious about continuing to have future GM vehicles built right here in Janesville.
Here are a couple of pics I took at the Detroit North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) back in 2008. Pictured on the first photograph are Chevy Beat and Chevy Trax. The second photo is of Chevy Groove. Will these be built in Janesville? Hopefully the answer is "yes" and soon!

Hats off to the Arts

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of providing musical entertainment at the Gathering Place in Milton, for the Hats off to the Arts event. This spring benefit featured custom-made hats, a lecture on hats (presented by the Rock County Historical Society), cakes shaped like hats and even a custom-made hat competition. Those who came, got to taste the best angel food cake I've ever had, courtesy of Auntie Chris. According to her card you can get one "for a special occasion or just because." And just in case, her number is 608-752-2282. She's right here in Janesville.
