Alliant disconnect update

Per Jennifer Petruzzello, Director of Neighborhood Services and Amelia Ramirez, Administrator of Public Service Commission of Wisconsin, it appears that the tenants are no longer in danger of immediate disconnection. An agreement has been reached between Alliant energy and the owner of the units in question on a payment schedule to cover the utility arrears. That is an excellent short-term solution.

As to the long-term solution, the City of Janesville is working with community service groups to determine what services the tenants are eligible for and to assess the tenants' needs. The City is also looking at paying the utilities for Section 8 residents directly to Alliant vs paying it to the landlord as part of the rent.

I'd like to thank all of the people involved, including Alliant energy and Mike Sheridan's office for aggressively working on getting this immediate situation resolved. I'm also glad to see that the City and the Neighborhood Services are proactively looking for long-term solutions to prevent this from happening in the future.
