First, on Thursday night, the Diversity Action Team asked me to give a presentation on what it was like to grow up in the Soviet Union. What can I say? Let's just say that it was very different from growing up in the United States.

Actually, I said a bit more that. I gladly shared some of my experiences and answered questions. It was great to also have two women from Russia at the presentation - Svetlana Syker and Marina McCormick - who graciously shared some of their experiences as well.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the Diversity Action Team for the dedicated work that they do, exposing our community to the diversity of people and experiences that make up Janesville.
Then, on Friday night, Isabelle and I went to the Daddy-Daughter dance, which was a benefit for the Habitat for Humanity. This is the 2nd year we went to this dance and the number of people attending just keeps growing. It was pretty obvious that both dads and girls were having a great time. We certainly did.
In case you were wondering, the car shown in the picture above, was the type our family owned for a few years in the early 1980s in Moscow. It was called "Zaporozhets", the engine was located in the back, it was air-cooled and the engine size was less than 1200 cc.
